Object-Oriented Technology (OOT) In Civil Aviation Projects: Certification Concerns
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Object-Oriented Technology (OOT) has been extensively utilized throughout the nonsafety rated software development community (e.g., Windows 98 and Internet software). Although the adoption of OOT has been limited in the airborne civil aviation community, OOT is being considered by an increasing number of manufacturers of airborne software. Application of RTCA DO-178B/EUROCAE ED-12B ("Software Considerations in Airborne systems and Equipment Certification") is the primary means of approving software within these airborne systems. However, DO-178B/ED-12B was developed prior to the widespread use of OOT. The application of DO-178B/ED-12B to systems developed using OOT is not well understand in the industry. This paper will provide an introduction to the issues surrounding the development of aviation software using OOT within the context of DO-178B/ED-12B assessments. This introduction will demonstrate that DO-178B/ED-12B is compatible with OOT but that there are significant issues that need to be addressed. Other papers will be developed to address these issues in more depth.

Considering Object Oriented Technology in Aviation Applications
Few developers of commercial aviation software products are using object-oriented technology (OOT), despite its popularity in some other industries. Safety concerns about using OOT in critical applications, uncertainty about how to comply with regulatory requirements, and basic conservatism within the aviation community have been factors behind this caution. The Federal Aviation Administration ...

The Object-Oriented Technology (OOT) is expected to foster the software development process industrialization. In fact, it can increase the process productivity and flexibility, requiring a change of the firm management practices. In particular, cost management has to be re-defined according to the OOT peculiar characteristics, introducing changes consistent with the actual OOT spread in softwa...
متن کاملThe Effects of Aircraft Certification Rules on General Aviation Accidents
The purpose of this study was to analyze the frequency of general aviation (GA) airplane accidents and accident rates on the basis of aircraft certification to determine whether or not differences in aircraft certification rules had an influence on accidents. In addition, the narrative cause descriptions contained within the accident reports were analyzed to determine whether there were differe...
متن کاملTricyclic Antidepressants Found in Pilots Fatally Injured in Civil Aviation Accidents.
Prevalence of tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) has not been explored in pilots. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) aviation accident and the Federal Aviation Administration's Civil Aerospace Medical Institute (CAMI) toxicology and medical certification databases were searched for pilots fatally injured in aviation accidents. During 1990-2012, CAMI received bio-samples of pilots fro...
متن کاملThe change trend and influencing factors of civil aviation safety efficiency: The case of Chinese airline companies
While the issue of civil aviation safety has attracted serious public concern, notably few studies have investigated civil aviation safety efficiency. In this paper, a definition of civil aviation safety efficiency is proposed for the first time. Inputs to the proposed civil aviation safety efficiency model are labor, capital, fund and technology. The outputs are the percent of the passenger tu...
